Overview

It is often one of the first steps for expatriates who plan to reside in, or have a financial connection with, Portugal.

A Portugal NIF, which stands for Número de Identificação Fiscal, is the Portuguese tax identification number. It is a unique number assigned to both individuals and companies to serve as a means of identification before tax authorities.

Below, you'll find a description of what a Portugal NIF is and how it works:

Purpose:
The NIF is used for all tax-related activities and legal transactions in Portugal. It is essential for carrying out financial transactions such as opening a bank account, signing a contract, receiving a salary, setting up utilities, or completing property transactions.

Usage:
Once obtained, the NIF must be presented when engaging in activities that have tax implications. Employers require the NIF to process paychecks and withhold the correct amount of tax.

It is used in all invoices and receipts to ensure proper accounting and tax reporting.

Importance for Non-Residents:
Non-residents who wish to engage in economic activities or own property in Portugal also need to obtain a NIF. As a non-resident, you will need a NIF with fiscal representation.

What’s included

Our NIF service includes the following:

- Your Portugal NIF number and PDF documentation

- 12 months fiscal representation is included. This is critical for non-residents.

- Automatic request of your Portal das Finanças password

How long it takes to get a NIF
